Woodland Wednesdays

Long Wood host a regular volunteering day each week called “Woodland Wednesdays.” Our volunteers are a mixed group from all walks of life, who come together for a common cause of improving the woods for visitors and wildlife. This session is led by our Warden who supervises all the tasks, provides guidance in using the tools and will even make you cups of tea and coffee to keep you going.

The group gets up to all sorts of tasks from woodland management, to path work, to greenwood crafts and also carpentry projects such as making bird boxes. If you’ve got a particular interest or skill you want to develop, just let the Warden know and they can tell you what’s coming up in the programme.

No previous experience or knowledge is needed to get involved, our Warden will be there to guide you through each activity. They are also First Aid trained. All tools and protective clothing such as gloves and hard hats (where needed) are provided. All you need to bring is suitable outdoor clothing and a packed lunch. We also have compost toilets available on site.

Our volunteers meet in our main car park by the new Visitor Centre at 10am, finishing up between 4-5pm, depending on the task. If you need to leave earlier, that’s no problem but you’d have to find your own way back to the car park from the work site.

Our car park is located on the road that runs between Llangybi and Llanfair Clydogau, just north of Lampeter. Directions can be found in the ‘How To Find Us’ section of this website.

As well as Woodland Wednesdays we also have other opportunities for you to get involved throughout the year including special volunteering days, public events and training courses. Our Warden can tell you about these when you come along or drop us an email with your question.
