Earlier this year, BBC One Wales invited Longwood to take part in filming for this year’s Children in Need Special of Weatherman Walking. It was an exciting chance to showcase the woodland and explain why our community values it so much.

During the visit, Derek Brockway chatted with Lesley about her role as a director. He spoke with Rob about our sustainable timber production and with Beth about how visitors can help monitor and record wildlife. The crew explored the trails, captured the woodland’s beauty, and learned about its history and conservation work. The weather shone, and the woodland provided a stunning backdrop — we even spotted a famous yellow bear! 🐻💛

Filming offered a fascinating insight into how a television programme comes together. The crew set up camera angles and captured meaningful moments with energy and professionalism. Derek’s interactions with volunteers and visitors added warmth and excitement. We enjoyed seeing Longwood Community Woodland highlighted positively. The day showed how the woodland serves as a place for learning, conservation, and community engagement.

We are thrilled that Longwood on Weatherman Walking will appear on BBC One Wales. Catch the programme tonight at 8pm, watch it later on BBC iPlayer, or see it repeated on BBC Two on Saturday 15th at 9:30am.
Tune in to watch Derek Brockway explore our trails, meet our team, and discover why Longwood remains a beloved part of the community. 🌿💚
