About the woodland

A Woodland for Everyone
Longwood is a 325-acre community-owned woodland just outside Lampeter in the Teifi Valley. It combines areas of ancient woodland with newer plantations, creating a rich and varied landscape that supports a wide range of wildlife, including rare and protected species.
Our Story
Longwood has been cared for by the local community since 2003, when a group of dedicated volunteers came together to secure its future. Their vision was to manage the woodland in a way that benefits both people and nature protecting biodiversity, encouraging sustainable use of resources, and opening the space for everyone to enjoy.
What We Do
Today, Longwood is managed as a not-for-profit project. Every penny raised through our sawmill, events, and donations goes straight back into maintaining the woodland. From restoring ancient habitats to creating family-friendly trails like the popular Dragon Trail, we’re always working to balance conservation with community use.
Our Mission
We aim to safeguard Longwood for future generations by:
-
Protecting and enhancing habitats for wildlife
-
Providing sustainable timber through our sawmill
-
Offering opportunities for education, volunteering, and community projects
-
Keeping the woodland open and free for everyone to enjoy

Why It Matters
Longwood is more than just a woodland it’s a living example of how people and nature can thrive together. Every visit, every volunteer hour, and every purchase supports the ongoing care of this special place. Whether you come for a peaceful walk, a family day out, or to get involved behind the scenes, you’re part of Longwood’s story.
