On 21st October 2011, the Welsh Government introduced a 5p charge on all single use carrier bags in an attempt to reduce the use of single use plastic bags. We work hard to minimise the use of single use plastic bags across our business. We encourage customers in our shops to bring their own bags and offer our own branded cotton bags as an alternative to single use plastic bags. The single use carrier bags that we do provide are 100% degradable. In 2023, for home deliveries and in our retail shops in both Lampeter and Aberaeron, we sold a total of 8,024 carrier bags, with gross proceeds of £401.20. We have donated the net proceeds of £334.33 to Coedwig Gymunedol Longwood (Longwood Community Woodland), who are working to restore the non-native plantation area of Longwood to native broadleaved species, whilst managing the woods as a community resource for the benefit of local residents and visitors in the Lampeter area.
